Acupuncture And Other Options For Chronic Pain
Many people use acupuncture for chronic pain, but it still remains controversial. A 2012 study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine looked at 4 chronic pain conditions: back and neck pain, osteoarthritis, chronic headache and shoulder pain. This was a meta analysis which looked at 29 previous randomized controlled trials with acupuncture involving a total of 17,922 patients.
Findings: Acupuncture is effective for the treatment of chronic pain and is therefore a reasonable option if you are suffering with chronic pain. This analysis also showed that acupuncture improvement is more than just a placebo effect.
Another complimentary approach to chronic pain is an elimination or anti-inflammatory diet. This diet eliminates sugar, wheat and dairy; which are some of the most common inflammatory foods. Diagnostic testing for food allergies and intolerances is also recommended. Removing the foods that show on your lab results from your daily diet can further benefit the chronic pain patient.
Vitamin-B6 and magnesium as an IV push can also be of great help for some patients.
Finally getting tested for nutritional and hormonal deficiencies, and when low and corrected for, can also be very effective in my clinical experience.
