The available research points to the environment and genetics. So, my goal is to help clean up your environment, and if your genetics are showing susceptibility, then through nutrition and dietary supplementation, help you avoid the expression of these genetic variations.
One of the genetic defects I measure is for methylation. Why? Because available evidence shows that mothers of children with autism were 4.5 times more likely to both have the less efficient methylation gene type and to report not taking prenatal vitamins during the period around conception than were mothers of typically developing children.
So I look for nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, gut bugs like candida and toxins like heavy metals. If I find any of these, I correct them for the patient. And to this day I have not had a mom who came to me for preconception help, and delivered a child who later has Autism.
Some women are simply looking for optimum wellness during their pregnancy when they come to me. I can do that for them by evaluating their blood and urine for deficiencies etc.
Some women who have sever nausea of pregnancy come in and get intravenous vitamins and nutrients and consequently feel better.
